This bit of Shadowheart = arguably my favorite romance novel scene ever

He stared back at her. Then he closed his eyes as if he had seen something that he could not bear. He shook his head and sat forward, leaning over his injured arm with a deep grimace. He sat with his head bowed. When he lifted his face, he had a helpless look. "Elena, he'll kill me. I'll be in Hell and you won't be there."

Her eyes began to blur. She did not move. "I won't let that happen."

"How will you stop it?" He swung himself uprighht, standing with a clatter of the manacles, holding the sling against his chest. "Give me the ring." He reached for her hand. "You cannot be seen wearing Navona's notto."

Elayne covered her fingers, but he caught her arm, his grip hard and cold.

"You're Monteverde alone now." He dragged at the gold band, yanking it over the bone without mercy as she tried to pul back.

EEEEE! I am so addicted to the fucked up circus of pain that are Elena/Allegretto. Did I mention that this scene is after he conquered Moteverde for her, and as a 'reward' she threw him in the dungeon just as she did the head of the rival family they took the city from because she wants a way to end the vendetta and is trying to find a way to work it out? EEEEEE!!!!!

Jang Ok Jung - romantic gorgeousness to the max

$

I confess I had only a mild interest in Jang Ok Jung, the romantic period kdrama that starts next week. I like both Kim Tae Hee (who plays the eponymous Jang Heebin) and Yoo Ah In (who plays King Sukjong), but was not sure how they would pair with each other, plus transforming Jang Heebin into a sympathetic heroine is a tall order (for those unfamiliar with her, she was a wife of King Sukjong who is not...beloved by history, to put it mildly).

But awesome cecilialambiel has linked me to a long trailer for JOJ and I am sold sold sold! I have been in a period book/movie/drama mood lately - nothing modern has been grabbing me. With my luck, that has happened just as there was a veritable dearth of period (subbed) kdramas. But now both this and Gu Family Book are about to air, and I am so excited it's sick.

I love everything about this trailer - the chemistry between the leads, the way both KTH and YAI just "fit" into the period, the gorgeous cinematography, the strong supporting cast (has Hong Soo Hyun ever not stole any drama she is in?), and the dreamlike and intensely romantic vibe. It looks like someone made "The Moon that Eclipses the Sun" only for grown-ups and with grown-ups.

I wish it was starting this week!

Darius by Grace Burrowes = love love love LOVE!!!

I am very fond of Grace Burrowes' romances, featuring very good people quietly setting their lives in order - I've only read two, The Heir and The Soldier, but they both stayed with me for their quiet grace, as it were.

Still, I wasn't prepared to love her latest, Darius, as strongly as I am doing right now. I woke up early to keep up reading, and if you knew how much I love to sleep in, you'd know what an endorcement it is.

Set in the 1820s, I'd love it for no other reason than the fact that it certainly has a set-up I have not seen before in a period novel - its hero Darius is a male escort. An impoverished younger son of an aristocratic family run by a horrific paterfamilias, Darius tries to protect his siblings and also survive by selling himself (with some conditions and relatively discreetly) to rich and bored society ladies. And then an elderly parlamentarian makes Darius an insane but irresistible offer - if Darius knocks up the parlamentarian's young second wife Vivien, so that she will have an heir or heiress (long story) to his entailed estate, he will pay Darius enough money that Darius can leave his occupation and actually become a gentleman farmer. And even though that violates Darius' remaining scruples, desperate to get out of his present life, Darius agrees. But Vivien is little like what Darius expected and in their month together, he finds himself losing his heart...

So, why do I love it? Firstly, I am very very fond of GB's writing style. It's not overwrought but not uncessesarily spare. I find all her books haunting in their emotion and the wistful, atmospheric feeling they produce (I remember reading The Heir during a miserable, grey, cold winter day and being transported into summery sunlight with a cool glass of lemonade).

But ultimately, I am a sucker for a story of hope and redemption and of quiet desperation transformed into healing and joy. It also matters that both Darius and Vivien are such ultimately good people, people who life knocked around quite a bit, but who maintain their essential decency (and yes, I realize that is a loaded word to use with respect to someone who sells himself for money). I was rooting for them so desperately to find a way out of everything that prevented them from happiness and from being with each other. Vivien, especially, is such a lovely heroine - brought up by a stepfather who was waiting to sell her off in marriage to the highest bidder and saved from that fate by her elderly husband (she was a companion to his first wife), Vivien is someone who has never had any time to enjoy herself and act her age. She is gentle but not a pushover, smart and warm and quiet and quietly wonderful. I'd love her for a sister or a mother or daughter, if that makes any sense. And I am in love with Darius, who is desperately trying to keep his head above water and his self-respect by walling off his emotions, but who cannot do so, and who is drowning in his life without being able to get out, but who tries so hard, and who is so full of intense, fierce kindness.

Basically, it's really really good and it hit all my kinks, and I was desperately rooting for Darius/Vivien and why are you reading this post instead of going to get that book?

A bit of everything...

1. So, Park Shi Hoo is going to be indicted for rape. The thing that continues to boggle me is the attitude (even among people who are not "oppa has no flaw and has been framed" fangirl crown, but people who believe he had sex with an unconscious woman) I see everywhere of "he made a bad call, but he is not a bad person." Ummmm - he raped someone. Twice. I am quite content with this making him a bad person. I mean, his Seung Yoo in The Princess' Man is one of my Top 10 kdrama heroes of all time (and I don't have any problems rewatching his dramas as his characters in them aren't rapists), so I get the fangirling, but reel life = not real life.

2. On happier news front, is anyone as excited as I am by the news that Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye would pair as the OTP in <b>Heirs</b>, to be written by the writer of Secret Garden and Gentleman's Dignity, aka two of my favorite dramas ever? I think everyone knows my ridiculous crush on LMH and I adore Park Shin Hye - I think they would make a good pair. I kinda wanted Shin Hye to be Jandi in Boys Over Flowers (she would have been much better than the appalling actress that is Gu Hye Sun, though it still wouldn't have fixed the biggest problem which was the horrific script), so I am sort of viewing it as a rematch :)

3. Long trailer for Gu Family Book is out and looks AMAZING (and a bit like a cdrama and a bit like Hong Gil Dong). That bit near the end, where Seung Gi just clings to Suzi for dear life - OMFG, I ship them already and the drama hasn't even started yet. Though I must be the only person who couldn't care less about the parental stories. I have no patience for background or childhood stuff nowadays and just wish it took 10 minutes or less. I mean, the parental thing would make an awesome drama in itself. I just want to get to my LSG puppy!

4. I have been reading a lot of romance novels lately, and a mixed bag they were.

Jo Beverley, St. Raven - OMFG so bad! So very very bad. It's so bad, I want to know why on earth the publishers paid for it, but then I bought it so perhaps the dummy is me. The plot involves our hero, a duke, masquerading as a highwayman for idiotic reasons, and rescuing the heroine from a bad guy jewel search blah blah. If you think I demonstrate no interest in the plot, rest assured, Beverley demonstrates even less - there really is no point to any of the story - half the book is occupied with a very detailed bu tedious description of a very tedious orgy at which our leads end up for little good reason. I mean, if I want pure pr0n, i know where to get it, and this wouldn't be it as a less exciting write-up I have yet to see outside of a medical textbook. If you think any of the characters in this trash are interesting, think again. SIMs have more personality.

Jo Beverley, Forbidden - ummm, it was better than St. Raven? Heroine is a widow of evil dude who kept her in sexual slavery, and she decides to escape her evil brothers who want to sell her to another man like that, runs into hapless hero and rapes (about it more later) him, seeking to become his mistress, she gets preggers, they marry, discover true love, barf barf the end. Part of my problem with this book arises from the fact that I recently realized I hate the set up of 'a person is forced to marry another.' There are some exceptions (both are forced to marry the other and equally do not want it, or the person forced to marry actually does want it) but they are slim. But a much much bigger part of the problem is that the heroine rapes the virgin hero!!!! I mean - WTF! He rescues her from the road she is wandering on, they are stuck sharing a room, he scrupulously doesn't touch her or shows any interest in that sort of thing, she decides she needs a 'protector,' so she assaults him when he is asleep, and by the time he wakes up, she is almost done bouncing on him, if you know what I mean. Did I mention the hero was a virgin because he was fastidious so no hookers or adultery, plus did not want to have any unwanted children (ooops, heroine fixed that! barf!) She has no idea if the man she assaulted is married or courting or whatever. Even if he is the singlest person to ever live, he did not give his consent. Hello, rapist!!! Hero even thinks she as good as raped him, but since he is a man *roll eyes* and she is hot, he is 'oh, OK.' And then he is stuck marrying her because she gets pregnant and everyone treats him as the villain and she keeps her mouth shut. And he tries to be a good husband and I am supposed to root for them? I mean - WTF!!!!!  I wanted the heroine to be run over by a carriage and hero to grow a spine and pick someone sane next time. Ugh. Beverley, you are this close to being dead to me.

Jo Beverley, The Rogue's Return - it's OK. Blah. I honestly have no feelings bad or good about this one.

Suzanne Enoch, Taming Rafe - despite the idiotic title, at last, a book I liked! Our hero has wanderlust but considers settling down when he comes in possession of a ramshackle estate with two strongwilled sisters still occupying it (one adult, one kid). This is just such a warm, lovely book about warm lovely people. It made me ridiculously happy.

Julie Anne Long, The Secret Seduction - one of the really early JALs, this is not as good as her amazing Pennyroyal Green series, but still a solid read about a vicar's adopted daughter and a jaded aristocratic poet nicknamed 'the Libertine' finding that they are compatible together. The structure is less tight than in her later books and the characters less instantly loveable, but the lush prose is already present and, while she doesn't delve as deeply into emotional center and heart, she still does pretty well.

Julia Quinn, The Duke and I - the only Quinn book I truly like. Heroine is tomboyish, hero is someone scarred by his horrible childhood, they find love, slowly.

Julia Queen, Everything and the Moon - young lovers separated by lies meet again as older, bitterer adults. It's not a bad book, but it suffers from the fact that I recently read Meredith Duran's haunting At Your Pleasure, which has the same set-up but in its style, the depths of feeling, and character portrayals blows JQ's effort out of the water. (AYP would go into my Top 10 romance novels any time I'd compile the list).

I have a new book series obsession

I have just finished Adrian Phoenix's A Rush of Wings, the first book in The Maker's Song, a series of dark urban fantasy novels (they are not romances, though there is a romantic thread), and I need more asap (luckily, three more books in the series are out).

Heather Wallace, a Special Agent for the FBI, has been on the track of a grisly serial killer known as CCK (Cross Country Killer) for a while. His latest crime has let her to New Orleans and a young Goth musician known only as Dante - soon Heather realizes that the killer is changing his modus operandi and is committing crimes to attract Dante's attention - but why that is, is the real question. Oh, and Heather is about to discover that vampires and other things that go bump in the night are real.

This book can get somewhat gruesome and is definitely very dark, so if that bothers you, stay away. If not, you should totally read it! I hesitate to give too much away, but there are creepy Government experiments, some good world-building, and protagonists (Heather and Dante) who I really...well, "like" might not be an appropriate word, but who I certainly root for desperately. I loved the writing style and I shipped Heather/Dante like mad (I dare you to not ship them - I dare you!). Heather is a great, tough, no nonsense heroine with the requisite past family tragedy (her mother was killed and her sister is in a psych ward from mental illness), who doesn't have that tragedy break her in any way. Dante is...well...I think the award for the worst past/childhood/life award has now been claimed. I actually spent the book hoping he would continue to black out his past! I mean, seriously. He's clinging to sanity by his fingernails and I am surprised he hasn't let go of that ledge a long time ago. (Though my favorite part of the book is when he does finally snap under all the stimuli and temporarily reverts into the part of him that is the Government-created psychopath and we read things from his POV).

Anyway, it was wonderful and dark and Heather/Dante forever, and I am off to get Book 2.

Btw, yes, I am getting a goodreads account :) Tomorrow.

Only one review yet, but I will probably slowly end up importing most of mine. Please gimme your goodread accounts so I can friend.

In other book news, I have finished the second book in The Maker's Song series, In the Blood - starting almost immediately after A Rush of Wings left off, ITB follows Heather, Dante and the rest of the characters from the first book as they cope with (1) the Government wanting traces of their failed experiment wiped out and/or studied, which is bad news for Heather, who already has her hands full trying to cope with her bipolar sister Annie (2) the Fallen trying to find and use Dante to save their fading realm, and (3) the psychotic Wells family (paterfamilias of which was one of the two scientists who programmed Dante) wanting to use Dante for their own means, preferably by triggering and/or torturing him. None of which is made better by the fact that Dante is slowly unraveling and losing control of himself and seeing that he can reshape reality, that is really really bad news for everyone involved, not that various bad guys really process that taking someone with tenuous hold on his sanity and trying to fuck him up further is a really really bad idea.

I think I liked this book even better than ARoW, even though this is possibly darker. I think it's because I've grown to know and like these characters - Heather continues to be her tough-minded, awesome, ridiculously sane self (which is pretty impressive seeing that she is in a sort of unending madhouse that is her life) and I feel truly horrible for Dante who would probably qualify as clinically insane by this point but is shockingly human and capable of love and self-sacrifice, seeing what his life has been. I continue to ship them like mad, which is just as well as she is pretty much the one thing that keeps him functioning and I love that she doesn't flinch from stuff that he seems to drag in his wake.

This said, it's a dark bleak book and I found myself wishing that Book 3 would be all about Heather and Dante chilling on some tropical island, making out and drinking, 300 pages of relaxation and therapy and no bad guys in sight.

Gu Family Book ep 1 - a quickie

I will do a proper post once I get more caps of this gorgeous show, but for now, I just want to say - Oh, Gu Family Book, where have you been all my life? My months-long kdrama slump is over. I am a sucker for period dramas and a sucker for tragedy and fantasy and strong-willed people.

So basically Lee Yeon Hee’s strong-willed Seo Hwa, a young aristocratic woman who lost everything when her father was executed for treason and has been sold into a brothel but resists no matter the cost and Choi Jin Hyuk’s mountain spirit (I love how oddly boyish and unworldly he feels) who falls in love with her at first sight = an OTP made especially for me. Can we have a drama just about them?

I was impatient and peeked at the raw...and am swooning like mad

Everyone is understandably excited about Gu Family Book, but I don’t want Jang Ok Jung to be neglected - the first episode is gorgeous and dreamy and Yoo Ah In and Kim Tae Hee’s chemistry is all fairy-tale like restraint wrapped in scorching glances and silences.

I am going to ship Sukjong and Jang Hee Bin in a ridiculous, angsty, heart-stopping way.

Noooo!

Uhm Tae Woong is apparently considering taking on Sword and Flower, the upcoming tragic period love story drama.

Nooooo!

Look, I am as fond of Uhmforce as the next girl, but he is so not cut out for a romantic drama. It doesn't help that I do not find him sexy (sorry!!!!) or that I think he should stick to modern dramas - every time I try to contemplate UTW in a period drama, I flash back to his boring-as-death turn in Queen Seon Deok (why why why couldn't Kim Nam Gil take S&F and UTW take Shark? That would be perfect)? Not to mention the man does not look good with long hair.

Ugh. Please fall through! Please!!!!

This book has to be seen to be believed...

I normally post about books on goodreads, but I had to share this because it's so insane.

So, I just finished Susan Squires'The Burning. OMG. Wow. Just wow. I have to give this book props for the sheer gonzo insanity of the set-up, in which our hero, a vampire who offs misbehaving vamps, achieves his superpowers by controlling and denying his ejaculations. No, I am not making this up - giant chunks of the book involve some seriously serious (and graphic) BDSM training of him by three ladyvamps so he'd be able to be horny and yet not achieve orgasm, which he can then channel into power. If you are into dudes being branded or made to jerk off into blocks of ice, this book is for you.

At one point, bad vamps capture the hero and decide to kill him by having sex with him until he literally explodes from unreleased lust.

I...don't even know what to say to be honest. I spent giant chunks of it giggling. I can suspend my disbelief a lot, but even I have limits (more importantly, none of these characters react to events in any even vaguely recognizable or realistic fashion).

Anyway, the plot (are you really reading this for the plot?) involves our hero, an ancient and guilt-ridden vamp named Stephan coming across our heroine, who is a human who can read everything about a person through a single touch. Tbh, there is a rather sweet love story in this book between our protagonists, and I wish the book focused more on that instead of our hero jerking off into bowls under duress. But then I got this book expecting a romance novel not a BDSM erotica book, so I suppose I have nobody but myself to blame.

I have been reading and enjoying Obsidian, the first in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series - it’s a YA series about a small town girl who befriends a group of hunted aliens who are pretending to be humans. Said aliens include one major hottie.

Sound familiar? The set-up (though not the details) flashed me right back to WB’s Roswell, a show I used to be obsessed with - I still remember staying up literally all night marathonning. I wrote fic and everything (check my 'roswell' tag for evidence of massive fic and meta :P).

I was so so so SO obsessed with Max/Liz - they pretty much hit every kink I didn’t even know I had. Even all these years later, if I had to make a Top 10 TV OTP list, they’d be on it.

Anyway, this is all to say that this LJ is going to temporarily turn into a Roswell central :)

OMG, how did I not know about SyFy's Defiance, which premieres today? It's from the creator of my all-time favorite show Farscape (seriously - if you put my love for every other show I've seen together, it will still not be as much as I loved Farscape) and is a dystopian scifi Western, which makes me think of Firefly, my second most-favorite show. OMFG I am in HEAVEN.

Trailer:

Also, for those like me, who like a bit of a love story with their dystopia, there is apparently a human/alien star-crossed lovers thing going on:

I think I have my spring drama love. Jung Ok Jung has yet to put a foot wrong, narratively, visually, acting-wise, every-other-wise. It even made me like the childhood portions, which never happens!

I am not big on backstories, but Jang Ok Jung surprised me by both keeping it short and sweet and by having the children have a lovely little story together. If anyone ever told me I’d be shipping King Sukjong and Jang Hee Bin, I’d have thought they were insane, yet here we are. I am officially on board - ah, gorgeous romantic period dramas, how I missed you!

Now bring on the adults!!!!

I've forgotten how much I love Max and Liz and Max/Liz. I am literally getting giddy watching them. The chemistry, the romance, the...OK, I am turning back into a teen...

Also, I'd so risk the Men in Black for someone who looks like that!

My favorite scene from the Pilot - when he tells her they can’t be together but everything totally belies it - the way he smiles (and bites his lip, awwww), the way his eyes light up, the way she glows - just - guuuuh! OTP!!!

Ep 2 of Gu Family Book, as well as 3/4 of kdrama OTPs summed up in 4 caps. Seriously, angst overload, and it’s only the parents!

I am not getting any comment notifications - WTF, lj?!

Anyway, I have a new ship, even though I am sure it will end badly! Christie/Alak from Defiance, ladies and gents! (Proper post on the show coming). Human/alien AND families that hate each other. Yes pls.

In Roswell rewatch news, ep 2 = mmmmmm!!!

You know what struck me this time? No matter what it is Max and Liz are talking about - Michael, alien hunters, school, etc - their eyes do nothing but adore each other.

Their chemistry is insane and they are functional and Max still owns my heart (when he tells Liz he wishes he didn’t have to be so invisible - my heart. But that is the thing - in finding Liz, he may have brought down all sorts of horrors on his head, but he’s not invisible any more, not in her eyes.)

Last but not least - Da Vinci's Demons! The show appears to be about as historical as a cracker jack box and the show’s Leonardo resembles the real one about as much as I do, but the show is ridiculously pretty, entertaining and addictive. And the pretty! Oh, the pretty!

Some Medici hotness:

Ambidextrous Leonardo and his ahistorical haircut:

And the award for the worst drama father of the spring TV season goes to…Seriously, there is bad dads, and then there is ‘kidnapping your kid off the street, sticking him in shackles and collar, beating him up, and then ordering your minions to beat him for an hour.’ Also, nobody is supposed to look this good beaten up and collared. There is something wrong with me!!!

I am totally shipping Leonardo x Lucrezia! Because the pretty is blinding and I am shallow! Plus, body paint! And she is totally smart and working for the bad guys, so I am hoping she will fall for him for real and there will be my Holy Grail - aaaaangst!

I am about to check out Pretty Little Liars...

Seriously. Like chips. You know they are bad for you, but you can't stop!

It took me a bit, but by the end of the pilot I was hooked. Even if I am amused at the fact that these must be the only teenagers in the world who wanted to spend their free time in some dilapidated house out of a horror movie. They are lucky only one went missing and they didn’t all get hunted down by an ax-wielding maniac!

Hmmm, I am getting the sense Emily might not be straight. Pls pls pls tell me she and the neighbor girl (whose name I haven’t memorized yet) are a thing and I am not going crazy!

The proper way to meet your future English teacher is:
a. In class as he takes attendance
b. Yelling at kids from his lawn
c. In a bar when he mistakes you for a college student and you end up doing the Veronica/Logan bathroom reenactment.
Guess what the show went with? For the record, no English teacher I’ve ever been within 500 miles of ever looked like this! I think this Pilot is amusing me immensely. A+++ for the kdrama vibe. Now all we need is stepsiblings hooking up to really make me happy :).

And yet more inappropriate hot-for-teacher Aria/Ezra moments from the Pilot. Seriously, this is so kdrama, it’s ridic! I approve! Go for that extra-credit, girl!

OTP!!! OTP!!!! Somewhere between her kissing him on the cheek goodbye, his grabbing her and pulling her into a mind-melting kiss, and her stroking his hair and walking off as he stairs after her was the exact moment I fell like a ton of very dense and heavy bricks for this couple. Bring it on, you awesome awesomeness! I am going to have way too much fun watching this show.

British fiance of Spencer’s older sister is so smarmy, I am surprised nobody has yet slipped in the oil that he emits from every pore. Hitting on fiancee’s sister is kinda gross.

I think my favorite character so far is the seemingly perfect, rather broken Hannah. It doesn’t hurt that she is ridiculously gorgeous.

Please please please let that blind girl be evil - please let this show have an evil blind girl. Because that would be perfect - ‘she can see! with her inner eye! And she sees your DOOOOOM!’

I rewatched ep 3 of S1 of Roswell today (do you know how it is to stop at just one ep a day?). So much love.

In addition to the sheer perfection that is Max/Liz (there are no words how much I am crushing on the soft-spoken, introverted Max, btw - that is pretty much my RL type and shows do not do it often enough), I do believe this is the start of Michael/Maria, a ship I shipped almost as much as Max/Liz.

I also loved Liz-Maria friendmance (is that a word, LOL)

And there is the whole theme of Max trying to balance the need to move on into the world and find out who/what he is with the need to stay hidden (those dioramas of govt experimenting on aliens is a feared potential reality for him)…

Sometimes shows you used to love years ago don’t hold up on rewatch, but this one so very does.

Ep 2 was so much fun. First off, the bad decision edition.

The proper response to a Peeping Tom is either to call the cops or draw the blinds. Blowing up his house = not a good choice.

Hannah’s boyfriend is hot (and they would have golden-haired babies) but clearly not that into her. I want Hannah to date Self Esteem instead.

There is only one character I dislike so far and it’s Wren (is his last name Cristopher? LOL). Because smarming up to and kissing your fiancee’s sister = ultimate scumbag.

OMFG so many feelings over Ezra and Aria. I want to squish them like the adorable shippy puppies they are. These two scenes just killlllllled me! Especially the little looks OMFG. I never ever thought I’d ship teacher-student outside an Asian drama, yet here we are.

"Temptation, frustration, so bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, she’s waiting, his car is warm and dry"
Great, now I am humming the Sting song :)
I kid, I kid, this was fucking perfect. Perfect.

The gorgeousness that are Lee Soon and Ok Jung in ep 3 of Jang Ok Jung. It’s like his whole being becomes centered in his eyes (the way he looks at her, as if the world outside her ceases to exist) and he almost stops breathing as if worried he’d wake up…And she makes him smile. Oh, my doomed perfect OTP!

This was the single most perfect thing I’ve seen in a long time. I AM RABID ABOUT THE TWO OF THEM!!!!!!!! Also, Suzy is so gorgeous it’s unreal and Lee Seung Gi, as always, owns every last bit of my heart as Kang Chi.

Why did I not know about this show sooner? Though I guess it’s good I have three whole seasons to binge on…

Every time I think I can’t ship Aria and Ezra any harder, this show proves me wrong. Seriously, when the two are around each other, puppies are born and rainbows are spontaneously created in the sky. I want to take Spencer from her sucktastic family. I also want to ban Wren from coming within 50 feet of her. Just - eeeek. She is too young for you, and you put the moves on her when you were engaged to her sister and you are smarmy. You are worth more than that, girl! (Speaking of being worth more - oh, Hanna, I really want you to get some self-esteem. If a boy doesn’t want to sleep with you doesn’t mean he doesn’t respect or love you - in what warped universe does your head exist? And crashing his car as ‘revenge’ for his being a gentleman - that is the definition of self-destructive).

Oh my God. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. You should have heard the lunatic sounds I was making over this scene. Ahhh, so this is Toby (for the record, watching Spencer/Toby videos on youtube is what got me to check out this show). I like!!! I like a lot! I mean, his sister is some sort of evil mastermind (and the boss of him, too) and Ali blackmailed him (with what? I need to know) into taking the fall for the girls’ little act of arson which ended up in reform school for him, And he saved Emily from being raped by that scuzzy ex of hers. Plus, the whole tall, dark and brooding thing. I HAVE A RADAR FOR YUMMY ANGSTINESS AND IT’S PINGING!!! Yes, please, show. With a very big cherry on top.
