Book 2 of the Dark Jewels trilogy is awesome

And actually a lot less dark than book 1. I am almost done with it...

1. Surreal stared at the dirty, trembling wreck that had once been the most dangerous, beautiful man in the Realm. The bits with Surreal and insane!Daemon = !!!! I totally friend!ship them now. Oh, and I am with Surreal who doesn't feel particularly sad when Lucivar is dead (they think he is) because she knows he is too blame for a lot of Daemon's insanity. I am not happy with you, Lucivar. Ugh.

2. "I sort of remember someone who had to submit to women like Roxie. It hurt him, and he hated it. It's not even a memory. More like a feeling because I can't recall who or where or why I would have known someone like that." When Jaenelle's subconscious remembered Daemon even if the rest of her has blocked him from her memories as part of her trauma, I emitted a fangirl shriek of joy (this is seriously manga in word form).

3. The face issolved, oozed through his fingers. Sobbing, he tried to hold it, tried to re-form that beloved face. The harder he tried, the quicker it slipped through his fingers until there was nothing left.

and

Pain deepening anguish deepening agony deepening pain until there was no pain at all. Or, perhaps, no one left to feel it.

and

He'd been mad the last time she's seen him, Now he looked as if he'd been sliced open and scooped out as well.

and

He shook, unable to control it. His bruised-looking eyes, empty of everything but pain, filled with tears.

Oh, Daemon. Oh, poor poor Daemon. The author loves torturing you.

I actually loved being in Daemon's insane mind because it was both interesting and satisfying my inner h/c junkie.

4. I spent a giant chunk of this book hoping Lucivar would find out the truth very soon, and then will feel VERY sorry. VERY. And choke on it. Because I wanted to stab him in the face. I was so mad at him that even when I think I was supposed to feel sad for Lucivar making a suicide run but all I felt was rage because in about two minutes he managed to knock Daemon from his precarious semi-functioning back into full-fledged insanity. UGH. And then he finds out the truth and he is sorry (for all the good that does) but I wanted him to be sorrier. Much sorrier than he was. No amount of sorry would have been enough - I've been reading these books enough to become bloodthirsty, it seems.

5. "Besides that, I love you like a brother, and any bastard who hurts my little sister is going to answer to me." OK, you are being an awesome adopted bro to Jaenelle, Lucivar, so I might feel a bit better towards you. Also, you are a feminist and all. But still - grrrrr about Daemon. Oh, and Luthvian is the worst mother ever. Poor Lucivar (yup, am back on Lucivar bandwagon, especially since he was so awesome during the siege and her ordeal). Honestly, Saetan is the only decent parental figure in this whole trilogy."

6. "You have to service me!" Roxie shouted, pushing herself into a sitting position. "You got me aroused. You have to service me."

Spinning around, Lucivar snapped a leg off a kitchen chair and tossed it into Roxie's lap. "Use that."

Ahahaha ILY, Lucivar! On a more serious note, I think it's insane that Jaenelle, Daemon and Lucivar all would probably need to attend sexual assault survivors group if magical realms had such a thing. These books are...their own thing.

7. Jaenelle is going to go to the Twisted Kingdom to rescue Daemon. YAY!

"Why didn't you stop her? Why are you letting her risk herself?"

Saetan bent his head, avoiding Lucivar's eyes. "Because she loves him. Because he really is her mate."

Lucivar was silent for a minute. Then he sighed. "He always said he'd been born to be Witch's lover. Looks like he was right."

EEEEEEEE! Unearthly shrieking.
