So, I am now 1/3 into Daughter of the Blood and it's ridiculously gory and emo and awesome. Not to mention that Daemon is my newest book crush, being a fangirl's wet dream and all (I am so predictable). He should be an anime hero.

1. Prior to finding out the truth of his parentage from Manny, did Daemon know that Lucinvar is his brother? I am super-confused on this topic - because on one hand, he returned to captivity after being told that if he doesn't, they'd cut bits off his brother, which implies he knows Lucinvar is his brother. But on the other hand, prior to the reveal, he had no idea who his father was and thought Hepsibah was his mother (and Hepsibah is hot for him, which is severely disturbing, because she acted all incestuous before he found out the truth, which has got to mess with his head - plus I am sure he was made to do things with Dorothea, if not Hepsibah, and he thought Dorothea was his aunt - this book has more incest than all of ancient Egyptian royalty, don't even get me started on Dorothea/Kartane). So how would he know Lucinvar was his brother? Did he mean a brother in spirit or something? And then there is that awesome scene at Cassandra's court where he hit on Lucinvar in a fit of self-loathing at being a sex slave (prior to snapping and killing Cassandra) and Daemon doesn't strike me as the type to ever do it if he thought Lucinvar was related to him. Plus, I don't think Lucinvar's reactions are those of someone who knows Daemon is his big brother. Hmmmmm.

2. You know, I am sure Kushiel's Dart is better-written etc etc but I am actually enjoying this series as opposed to being eeeked-out by KD. Probably because I am a very vanilla person at heart and I don't mind all sorts of crazy set-ups, but I don't want my hero/heroine to be joyfully into BDSM and treat it as some sort of happy religion because it's so far from anything I get (I am sort of like a Cecil B. deMille movie - I am fine with all sorts of depravity as long as the last 2 minutes is full of people repenting and finding God :P). And least with Daemon, it totally makes sense because it's his act of defiance against his situation and a way for him to cope of what is being done to him.

3. They haven't even met yet (other than one brief psychic link, though I wouldn't call it meeting), but I already ship Daemon/Jaenelle because the whole 'he was put in this world to love her' is either going to make you roll your eyes so hard they fall out, squick you, or make you swoon like a Victorian lady who just saw a sex act. Since I am a big fan of Ayashi no Ceres, you can guess my reaction. (hint - a lot of 'eeeee!' was involved).

4. Please tell me we'll see more of Lucinvar. I love him! As a trade-off, I don't mind seeing less of Saetan. I know everybody loves the badass big daddy, but while I like him OK, I don't find him that interesting. So far, my ranks of favorite characters are: Daemon >>>>>>> Lucinvar > Jaenelle > Surreal >>> Saetan >> Tersa. Everyone else, other than some minor characters, can go die. I am sure Daemon would happily grant my wish if he got his ring of obedience off.

5. Speaking of Daemon and death and all that other stuff. Why does Dorothea not kill him? I mean, she might not win that fight, because even ringed, he is very powerful, but she doesn't know that and I am just surprised she doesn't try to (or didn't try earlier when he was younger and weaker). I mean, a slave who occasionally snaps and kills his owner(s) is not a great asset. I get that in part she keeps him around because she finds him sexy and likes the very dark, dangerous edge he has, but it's still a ridiculous risk.

PLEASE DON'T SPOIL ME FOR STUFF THAT IS IN LATER BOOKS, KTHNKS, at least not without a spoiler space or highlight :)
